In July 2011 an event called Celebrate Fieldhead! was held to mark the end of the government-funded building work on the estate and celebrate what the project has achieved in transforming the area.
Families enjoyed a feast of free entertainment including a climbing wall, bouncy castle, donkey rides, face painting, Mrs Tipsy’s children’s show, the fun bus and fairground rides.
The highlight of the event was a spectacular fire show with breath-taking stunts by Surefire Contemporary Circus Theatre. The group also led free circus skills workshops all afternoon including juggling, diablo, and hula hooping.
The event, which took place in and around the community centre in Lowood Lane, was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Cllr Christine Iredale, Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood and Peter Rock, chairman of Kirklees Community Association.
The Mayor of Kirklees Cllr Eric Firth also called in later in the day.
Local community organisations including Birstall Luddites Rotary, Batley and Birstall Kirkwood Hospice Support Group and the community centre also supported the event by holding stalls.
